The Major Lie About Cardio - And the Most Effective Cardio Workouts You Should Do Instead

You must understand that the only effective cardio workouts are the ones that are the high intensity ones. In fact, take a look at this recent study:Which is the most effective cardio workouts?

The researchers at the U of Virginia selected twenty seven obese women and put them in three groups. (The average age of these women was about 51 years).

  • 1st Group - no exercises or training
  • 2nd Group - Low intensity workouts for five days a week. This is what I call slow and boring cardio.
  • 3rd Group - Just three days per week of high intensity cardio workouts plus two more days of low intensity workouts.

Now here is the thing... in all of these three groups, the women didn't workout on a time basis. No, they exercised each session until they burned just 400 calories and stopped right there. In so many words, whatever level of workouts these women did... they stopped when they reach the 400 calories level. So it makes sense that the high intensity workouts were completed before the low intensity workouts. Right?

Med Sci Sports Exerc. 2008 Oct 8. Effect of Exercise Training Intensity on Abdominal Visceral Fat and Body Composition. Irving BA, Davis CK, Brock DW, Weltman JY, Swift D, Barrett EJ, Gaesser GA, Weltman A.

And here were the results:

The women in the 3rd group that did the high intensity workouts did much better than the women in the 2nd or 1st group. The members of the 3rd group lost a significant amount of abdominal fat while the low intensity or even the no intensity group lost little or no fat.

So say it with me... "Booooo to slow and boring cardio workouts!"

So let's review the results:

  • Harder workouts results in more fat loss in less time.
  • Harder workouts burns much more belly fat.
  • Low intensity or no intensity workouts results in little or no difference.

Imagine that! Doing those boring and slow cardio day in and day out and have nothing to show for it. Not only that is a huge waste of your time (for nothing)... it is also costing you (time away from your family, your work or your hobbies or even spending a lot of money for gym fees with no fat loss results).

I don't know about you but I would be absolutely pissed if I spent all this money and time trying to lose body fat to reveal my abs and get little or no results.

Seriously upset! And yet, this is what most folks are doing year in and year out. Are you one of them?

Just by reading this short article, you now know more than most people will ever know about effective cardio workouts!

And know this, I never was a big fan of slow and boring cardio. I prefer the interval and high intensity cardio instead. The interval cardio is when you vary the speed of your workouts.

And this is why I absolutely love all 3 of the recommended abdominal workout programs I listed. They all think like I do because they all have effective cardio workouts for you.

One more word of advice (warning). To burn 400 calories, you have to workout at least 30 minutes depending on the level of your workout of course. Granted, that is pretty long... if you are not in great shape, I suggest that you monitor your workouts so that you don't put yourself in harm's way. Just build up to your fitness level. Don't feel like you have to rush in the first day and win a few Olympic Gold Medals!

Just be smart. If necessary, get your Doctor's OK before working out. But this study I just referred to concludes that high intensity workouts is the way to go if you are serious about losing body fat.
